Alaqua/Demon Bridge Operation
Back in June of 2019, the Florida Trail Association partnered with Eglin Air Force Base and the Florida Trail Coalition Partners celebrated the newest and longest suspension bridge with an inaugrial ribbon cutting.
The construction of the 70-foot “Demon” bridge over the Alaqua creek had been an extensive collaborative project between the U.S Forest Service, the Florida Trail Association, the Choctawhatchee and Western Gate Chapers, Framing Our Community, Eglin Air Force Base/Jackson Guard and land owners Chet Winegarner and Jimmy Gainey. Alaqua received the nickname “Demon Bridge” due to it being struggle to build and move four times over.
